The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk operate four hospitals in India, where Covid-19 is continuing to run rampant at an astonishing rate. These facilities were founded by the Sisters to serve people in remote villages who typically have very little access to health care. Among the dedicated staff are Ursuline Sisters who are doctors and nurses.
While currently the medical centers in Dumka and Chandmari are closed because so many of the staff members are sick with Covid-19 and are unable to care for others, for those at St. Ursula Hospital - Konbir Noatoli and St. Ursula Hospital - Lohardaga the situation is very grave. Because of shortages in supplies and treatment options, some Covid-19 positive people must be sent nearly 30 miles away. For many this journey is an impossibility and lack of access to treatment is proving to be fatal. These two hospitals are trying to become Covid Centers but need many supplies, which they believe will cost $16,000 per hospital.
The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk have put out an urgent plea for donations so that they may continue their ministry. Any donations made through us will go directly to the Ursuline Sisters so that the funds may be used immediately without going through other channels. Once the needs of the hospitals are met, funds may be used by the Sisters in India for other costs associated with the Covid-19 pandemic including their own healthcare bills, funeral expenses, and rising food instability for them and the people they serve.
We also ask you to remember in your prayers the following Sisters who have died in India over the past month, three of them directly due to Covid 19: from Ranchi Province Sr. Gulab Bhunyan, OSU, Sr. Placida Kispotta, OSU, Sr. Angela Lakra, OSU, Sr. Magdalen Kullu, OSU, Sr. John Narikuzhi, OSU and from Gumla Province Sr. Martha Berchmans Xalxo, OSU. Additionally, many other Sisters have contracted Covid 19, including all four of our Province Leaders in India, some of whom are currently hospitalized.
