When Mother Madeline Breyers traveled to Ireland in 1925 seeking vocations for the new Ursuline foundation at Nativity BVM in Ozone Park, Sr. Agnes (Margaret Mary) O’Brien was one of the first to volunteer to dedicate her life to this mission. After teaching at Nativity for 13 years she went on to serve as principal and superior at Our Lady of Grace. It was also Sr. Agnes who, when heavy rains washed away homes in a nearby community, brought the homeless families to the convent for a warm place to sleep. She then served as principal of Our Lady of Victory School in West Haven and at St. William the Abbot in Seaford, assistant principal at Holy Family High School in South Huntington, and also served as a Councilor on the Province’s Leadership Team.
