Sr. Catherine Mooney came to the United States in 1920 from her home in Ireland to join the Ursuline community. She earned her BS and MA from St. John’s University and held certifications in Journalism from Marquette, Irish Heritage from Trinity College (Dublin), and Linguistics from Illinois Institute of Technology. Sr. Mary Catherine taught at Nativity BVM, Our Lady of Grace, St. Thomas the Apostle, St William the Abbot, Holy Family High School, St. Mary High School, and St. John’s University. While living in Far Rockaway, she began her outreach to the elderly and developed programs to help them navigate financial matters and created a program where senior citizens would mentor and tutor children from their apartment complex. Sr. Mary Catherine was a champion to the poor, sick, lonely, and victims of injustice.
She was joined in her vocation as an Ursuline Sister of Tildonk by her sister, Sr. Sara (Terence).
