Sr. Mary Schramm, born in Richmond Hill, professed her final vows in 1964. She began her ministry of teaching and taught at Nativity BVM, St. William the Abbot, Alternate High School/Rossbrook House in Winnipeg, and in several schools in Connecticut. Sr. Mary also served as the coordinator of PRONTO of LI, a community outreach center and food pantry in Bay Shore, NY. Sr. Mary is remembered for creating “sacred space” through her beautiful gardens at St. Ursula Center. She engaged many community volunteers, especially the local scouting groups in her transformation of the grounds.
